Summer Research Task: Treaty of Waitangi

My research task is all about questions of waitangi. Waitangi happened in 1840 when the British came to New Zealand to take the land. They signed a treaty that said they have to share the land and live in peace. They then had to share everything and the British would bring them food and do good deeds. If the British never came then we would all be speaking Maori in the country.

Waitangi Card

Today I have written about my follow up and the question was “In what ways is a contract like a hat?” in my task it says why I think it is like a hat because it could be blown away or forgotten. This week we are learning about Waitangi becasuse we have to remember what New Zealand and British did in 1840. Please have a look at my task to see the photos I posted and why I think a treaty is like a hat.

T4W10:The midnight wish

At the stroke of midnight, I made a wish as fireworks lit up the sky. It was just for fun… or so I thought, until I woke up and realised my wish had come true. At 2:00 am last night I woke up to fireworks lighting up in the sky so I made a wish. I wished to have a pet deer because they are my favourite animal! I thought it was just a myth though so I didn’t think much about it, until I woke up and saw to my surprise it was left for me. I was lying in bed then I got up and went into my kitchen so I could make myself some breakfast. Out of the kitchen window I could see a package waiting outside on my door step and so I left my breakfast on the bench to discover what was in the package. I never ordered anything but I thought that maybe they had\ the wrong house. I checked the location of the package and it said my exact house so I thought that maybe it wasn’t an accident. It was pretty heavy and something was shaking inside and I put it on my couch. I saw it wiggling around, it kind of scared me so I just left it there for a while. When I felt brave enough to open it I realised… IT WASN’T JUST A MYTH IT WAS REAL! I was in disbelief as a light brown small deer jumped out of it landing in my arms. It was so cute, all I wanted to do was squeeze it because it had beautiful eyes. After 30 seconds of being in my arms it jumped out and ran to sit under my christmas tree. He started playing with my ornaments that fell down from the tree and I tried taking them off him but he wouldn’t budge. He didn’t want to listen to me and I bribed him with some treats in case he might choke on the strings to the ornaments. After he ran to me to have some treats I saw he chewed up all of the strings and he nearly broke them off. When I touched them it was all gooey and I quickly threw it in the trash because I was disgusted. He then ran in to my bedroom and started messing up my whole bed. He was making me mad so I tried to train him to be a good deer. The deer was still eating all of my food in my pantry, I just needed a rest at this point. I was just getting annoyed and then I showed him this movie all about deers and how to make one behave. He listened to it and I think that he realised that he was being too much for me. The next day at the exact same time that I wished for a deer I saw the exact same house doing the exact same fireworks so I didn’t wish for anything that time because I didn’t want another problem. My new deer just kept staring at them and she was so relaxed. Next morning she was the best deer ever.

Perfect year

From this term in creative space, we have been learning to make our own song since this term is all about music. I first had to make lyrics with another teacher named Ms Parrant. I wrote about all the different memories that happened this year and then I put it in gemini to create a song. Then it created me a cool song that I could sing with my friends together to make it sound even more cool. After that I then had to make a beat that would go with my song so that I could sing with a cool background. I had to make the beat sound in sync with the lyrics so it could actually sound like a real song and I ended up liking it.Then after that me and my friends finnally got to sing the song that I made and w all matched. We made some mistakes but the song is still perfect because we tried ur best. My song is about 3-4 minutes long so me and my friends would love to take up that little amount of time for you to listen to the song that we sang. Please listen to the song and leave a positive blog comment about how good me and my friends sang it.

Story Starters: Christmas gifts gone wrong!

As we tore through the wrapping paper on Christmas morning, I didn’t expect my little brother to scream. Inside the box wasn’t just a gift—it was a mystery we had to solve before the day was over… As me and my family rushed over to see what was inside the box we were all in disbelief as there was a magical portal inside. It had blue shiny gems pearling from the outside moving in a circle around the portal. When my brother touched it he felt a hand touch him back and then he started bawling his eyes out. He was scared so my mum tried destroying the box but it was unrippable. The  arms came out so quickly and it dragged my little brother inside so me and my family quickly dived in to see him. WHen we fell inside we saw my brother already lying on the floor just staring at us. He felt scared and he even tried running away but then I said “Do you want a cupcake?” because cupcakes are his favourite. When he turned around he saw me holding cupcakes so then he ran back to me. Me and my family were in a very random maze where everything you looked at was blue and even the clouds were. When my dad looked down he saw we were in the sky and his biggest fear is heights so he clinged onto my mum. My mum told him to stop being a scaredy cat and get over it, we told him to be strong and brave. I turned a corner and saw just a random chair floating and I went up to it and tried to stand on it to see over the maze. It was the size of the amazon rainforest and I knew me and my family were never going to get out. I thought I was just dreaming so I tried opening my eyes but then I realised it’s not a dream, it’s REAL LIFE. When my mum tried to come comfort me, it was still so cold because we were all wearing shorts and singlets at night time. My little brother was about to get frostbite so my dad gave him his robe that he had because he hates when it’s night it’s way too cold for him. My mum got mad because my dad wasn’t helping, all he did was just stand there in disbelief. After my mum was getting mad I took my 2 younger brothers so they wouldn’t get scared of my mum yelling like a hyena. My dad was sad so he just stayed silent and tried to lead us. We all followed my dad’s way while he was trying to get us out of the maze but my mum said it was going to lead us to nowhere so she told my dad that she could be the leader. My mum lead us down this very long pathway as we followed her and there was a small door that had a sign on top of it that said <EXIT> and my mum danced for joy. I celebrated and then when we exited something was pulling us up in the sky very very fast. When it stopped we all fell on our big couch in the lounge and then we continued to unwrap our presents.

Finish the sentence: Writing Story Starters

Every summer, we visit Nan and Koro’s house in the country. It’s always peaceful, until this year. That’s when the neighbour’s goat escaped and decided to move in with us…He is a very crazy goat and hard to look after but it was so cute so we decided if it wanted to stay, then it was allowed to. He would eat all the food, chew on my shoes, try to fight me, and most of all he would always run away and come back around dark time. The good thing about him was that he was comfortable at his new house and he was able to keep my nan and koro company. Although we were happy with him at our house, the neighbours were not happy about it. The neighbours tried to lure their goat out of our house but he would not budge. My nan would even try locking the doors whenever he ran away but he would still find a way in. My grandparents realised how upset their neighbours were, and they are good people so they wanted to take their goat back to the neighbours house. Even though they were going to miss him you don’t always get your own way so they wanted to be fair to them. My nan tried looking after him before they sent him back so he could learn not to run away but all he did was poo everywhere, and not behave. He keeps ruining expensive furniture and ripping them to pieces, he throws up on the kitchen bench, he just can’t listen. My grandparents are to old to keep up with this, trying to make this stingy goat behave is too much for them. I wanted to try and help out but I didn’t know what to do. One day the goat came into my room and just sat on my ground. I could tell he was sad so I played with him. My koro peaked through the door and saw that we were playing, he felt heaps of joy. I thought that the goat was really annoying at first, but he is just not as comfortable with my grandparents then me. My koro told my nan about us playing and my nan came up with a grand plan that I could be the one to teach him how to be a good goat. I accepted it, not knowing the challenges that would come. I first tried teaching him how to eat his food politely, he gobbled it down in a second. Then I potty trained him, the next hour he pooped on the carpet in the lounge. Since none of that worked I realised I had a friend who was good at teaching dogs. I took the goat to her the next day and when he came back he was a very good goat. I went to go and show my grandparents how good I made him behave. We then said 0our goodbyes and sent him back to the neighbours, the end.

Summer Ain’t No Mountain High Enough: Comprehension

This week for my follow up 2 we listened to a song that was made back in the old days called “Ain’t no mountain high enough”. This book is about being unstoppable and never giving up, this can help with people going through tough times and it will make them feel strength so they can be great and joyful. In our follow up we wrote how this song can connect to our generation and I think it will help them when the also go through their journey as they grow older. Please have a look at my blog post and leave a positive blog comment!

Summer Research Task: Afrobeats

This week we have been learning all about Afro beats and what it is. Afro beats is a genre made by Africans in the 1900s. We did our Response to Text, Old School vs. New School, Power of Media, African Instruments, Collaborating around the world, Afrobeats influence, and our Photopea slides. Afrobeats is a contemporary, diverse umbrella term for pop music from West Africa that fuses genres like hip hop, R&B, house, and dancehall with various African styles. It is distinct from the older genre Afrobeat, which was pioneered by Fela Kuti in the 1970s and is characterized by its own unique blend of jazz, funk, and Nigerian/Ghanaian musical influences.

This is…Italian Music!: Making our own song

This term for extension we have been working on making our own piece of music from a different country. The whole extension class all had to choose a different country to make music from and I picked Italy. I wrote all about what Italian music is and my opinion on it as well.

We made our piece of music in Garageband. In my song I tried searching up instruments that are from Italy so I could put the instrument in my song. In the end it sounded very good but I found it challenging to make Italian music so I think I did well. In my Research presentation I included: details, and a bunch of things that I know about this type of music. I chose Italy because I know it has very detailed and descriptive kind of music so I wanted my song to be detailed. Italy is a very known Country and I chose to do it so people would be very familliar with people and they will like it. I think Italian music sounds like a it romantic but then the other kind of sound it has is disco kind because it is energetic, and then it is like romantic beats. I really enjoyed makng it becaause I ried putting a lot of effort into it and I tried making it sound like a mix of disco and romance.Italy is the birthplace of opera, and a major influence on classical music, inventing many instruments like the piano and violin. Italian folk music is also a vital part of its culture, with diverse regional styles and influences from neighboring countries. Regional diversity: Italy has a rich tradition of folk music with styles, instruments, and dances varying significantly by region. Regional influences: Northern folk music can show Celtic influence, while southern folk music has more Greek, Arab, and African influences.Modern pop: Italian popular music incorporates global genres like rock, hip-hop, and electronic dance music.Birthplace of opera: Italy is the birthplace of opera, which developed in the 17th century and has spread worldwide.Classical music hub: It’s considered the birthplace of Western classical music, with Renaissance and Baroque periods producing composers like Claudio Monteverdi and Antonio Vivaldi.Instrument invention: Many musical instruments were invented in Italy, including the piano (by Bartolomeo Cristofori), the double bass (by Gasparo Da Salo), and the violin.

(On Research presentation)
Here are some instruments I used:
The Violin: The Violin originated in Italy in the early 16th century. The Italian tradition of violin making is highly respected, they put high quality into playing music like the famous artists. The Cello: The cello was created around the 1550s in Northern Italy. Italy has remained a a center for cello making. Andrea Amati is credited as the first to gain recognition for making cellos. The Harp: The Harp is Italians most strongly associated with string instruments like a type of accordion. the triple harp is a type of harp that has Italian origins.Piano: Piano’s were invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori in Italy around 1709. The piano was created to give the musician more control over volume.Guitar: The Italian word for guitar is chitarra, and a instrument that relates to it is the mandolin, they are very in common. My feelings on making this was worried because I didn’t know the types of sounds to include and use.
