T4W10:The midnight wish

At the stroke of midnight, I made a wish as fireworks lit up the sky. It was just for fun… or so I thought, until I woke up and realised my wish had come true. At 2:00 am last night I woke up to fireworks lighting up in the sky so I made a wish. I wished to have a pet deer because they are my favourite animal! I thought it was just a myth though so I didn’t think much about it, until I woke up and saw to my surprise it was left for me. I was lying in bed then I got up and went into my kitchen so I could make myself some breakfast. Out of the kitchen window I could see a package waiting outside on my door step and so I left my breakfast on the bench to discover what was in the package. I never ordered anything but I thought that maybe they had\ the wrong house. I checked the location of the package and it said my exact house so I thought that maybe it wasn’t an accident. It was pretty heavy and something was shaking inside and I put it on my couch. I saw it wiggling around, it kind of scared me so I just left it there for a while. When I felt brave enough to open it I realised… IT WASN’T JUST A MYTH IT WAS REAL! I was in disbelief as a light brown small deer jumped out of it landing in my arms. It was so cute, all I wanted to do was squeeze it because it had beautiful eyes. After 30 seconds of being in my arms it jumped out and ran to sit under my christmas tree. He started playing with my ornaments that fell down from the tree and I tried taking them off him but he wouldn’t budge. He didn’t want to listen to me and I bribed him with some treats in case he might choke on the strings to the ornaments. After he ran to me to have some treats I saw he chewed up all of the strings and he nearly broke them off. When I touched them it was all gooey and I quickly threw it in the trash because I was disgusted. He then ran in to my bedroom and started messing up my whole bed. He was making me mad so I tried to train him to be a good deer. The deer was still eating all of my food in my pantry, I just needed a rest at this point. I was just getting annoyed and then I showed him this movie all about deers and how to make one behave. He listened to it and I think that he realised that he was being too much for me. The next day at the exact same time that I wished for a deer I saw the exact same house doing the exact same fireworks so I didn’t wish for anything that time because I didn’t want another problem. My new deer just kept staring at them and she was so relaxed. Next morning she was the best deer ever.

Story Starters: Christmas gifts gone wrong!

As we tore through the wrapping paper on Christmas morning, I didn’t expect my little brother to scream. Inside the box wasn’t just a gift—it was a mystery we had to solve before the day was over… As me and my family rushed over to see what was inside the box we were all in disbelief as there was a magical portal inside. It had blue shiny gems pearling from the outside moving in a circle around the portal. When my brother touched it he felt a hand touch him back and then he started bawling his eyes out. He was scared so my mum tried destroying the box but it was unrippable. The  arms came out so quickly and it dragged my little brother inside so me and my family quickly dived in to see him. WHen we fell inside we saw my brother already lying on the floor just staring at us. He felt scared and he even tried running away but then I said “Do you want a cupcake?” because cupcakes are his favourite. When he turned around he saw me holding cupcakes so then he ran back to me. Me and my family were in a very random maze where everything you looked at was blue and even the clouds were. When my dad looked down he saw we were in the sky and his biggest fear is heights so he clinged onto my mum. My mum told him to stop being a scaredy cat and get over it, we told him to be strong and brave. I turned a corner and saw just a random chair floating and I went up to it and tried to stand on it to see over the maze. It was the size of the amazon rainforest and I knew me and my family were never going to get out. I thought I was just dreaming so I tried opening my eyes but then I realised it’s not a dream, it’s REAL LIFE. When my mum tried to come comfort me, it was still so cold because we were all wearing shorts and singlets at night time. My little brother was about to get frostbite so my dad gave him his robe that he had because he hates when it’s night it’s way too cold for him. My mum got mad because my dad wasn’t helping, all he did was just stand there in disbelief. After my mum was getting mad I took my 2 younger brothers so they wouldn’t get scared of my mum yelling like a hyena. My dad was sad so he just stayed silent and tried to lead us. We all followed my dad’s way while he was trying to get us out of the maze but my mum said it was going to lead us to nowhere so she told my dad that she could be the leader. My mum lead us down this very long pathway as we followed her and there was a small door that had a sign on top of it that said <EXIT> and my mum danced for joy. I celebrated and then when we exited something was pulling us up in the sky very very fast. When it stopped we all fell on our big couch in the lounge and then we continued to unwrap our presents.

Finish the sentence: Writing Story Starters

Every summer, we visit Nan and Koro’s house in the country. It’s always peaceful, until this year. That’s when the neighbour’s goat escaped and decided to move in with us…He is a very crazy goat and hard to look after but it was so cute so we decided if it wanted to stay, then it was allowed to. He would eat all the food, chew on my shoes, try to fight me, and most of all he would always run away and come back around dark time. The good thing about him was that he was comfortable at his new house and he was able to keep my nan and koro company. Although we were happy with him at our house, the neighbours were not happy about it. The neighbours tried to lure their goat out of our house but he would not budge. My nan would even try locking the doors whenever he ran away but he would still find a way in. My grandparents realised how upset their neighbours were, and they are good people so they wanted to take their goat back to the neighbours house. Even though they were going to miss him you don’t always get your own way so they wanted to be fair to them. My nan tried looking after him before they sent him back so he could learn not to run away but all he did was poo everywhere, and not behave. He keeps ruining expensive furniture and ripping them to pieces, he throws up on the kitchen bench, he just can’t listen. My grandparents are to old to keep up with this, trying to make this stingy goat behave is too much for them. I wanted to try and help out but I didn’t know what to do. One day the goat came into my room and just sat on my ground. I could tell he was sad so I played with him. My koro peaked through the door and saw that we were playing, he felt heaps of joy. I thought that the goat was really annoying at first, but he is just not as comfortable with my grandparents then me. My koro told my nan about us playing and my nan came up with a grand plan that I could be the one to teach him how to be a good goat. I accepted it, not knowing the challenges that would come. I first tried teaching him how to eat his food politely, he gobbled it down in a second. Then I potty trained him, the next hour he pooped on the carpet in the lounge. Since none of that worked I realised I had a friend who was good at teaching dogs. I took the goat to her the next day and when he came back he was a very good goat. I went to go and show my grandparents how good I made him behave. We then said 0our goodbyes and sent him back to the neighbours, the end.

→A few weeks ago my family and I went to KFC because we were all hungry and starving. We decided that we wanted to go somewhere far away so we went to the KFC in Sylvia Park. It took about 15 minutes to get there but we arrived.

PARAGRAPH 1:
When we arrived we parked on the roof of the carpark and went inside. We parked next to the PaknSave but we went the other way because it was closer to the KFC. We parked near the Yum Char because there was no closer place to park. It took us about 2 minutes to walk there and while we were walking we were window shopping because my dad was calling somebody on the phone. I was looking at these very fancy shoes because they looked cool but I couldn’t buy anything because I spent all my money on food. My mum didn’t come with us because she was at work and she was working late that night so we were too hungry to wait for her. The KFC was kind of modern but at the same time there was a lot of rubbish inside, even on the grounds. I could tell that the people who ate there were lazy because they didn’t clean up their mess. While my dad ordered our food on the big board thingy, me and my brother went to go and find a table to eat at so we got one before everybody else came in and found a table.

PARAGRAPH 2:
When my dad finished ordering our food he came to sit at the table with us. My brother needed to go to the toilet so while we waited we also went to go and wash our hands because they have to be clean before we eat our food. When we all got back to the table our food was taking pretty long to order so we all just went on our phones while we waited. We saw more people coming through the door and on the table next to us there were two mums with their two daughters. The kids were very young so as the respectful person I am, I was being very kind to them. They didn’t even say thank you but that was okay because they are babies and they don’t know how to talk. Our food arrived and we were very hungry so we all dug in. There was spicy chicken, coleslaw, and the mashed potatoes, slimy thingy. There were also chips but I don’t like the chips as much as I like the spicy chicken dipped in the mash potatoes. The spicy chicken pieces were SO SMALL but it was fine because if I ate too much it would have burnt my tongue because that’s the only spicy thing that I like. I ate some chips too because they were still very yummy and tasty. We also got a drink but I don’t like fanta but I had no choice but to drink it because I was very thirsty. I had one and a half cups of it because I didn’t like the fizz in it so I didn’t finish it.

PARAGRAPH 3:
My whole family finished eating all their food but I hadn’t finished so they were all waiting for me so we could go home. I didn’t finish it all but they were rushing me to finish so I just left the rest of my food there. When I was still eating they were all staring at my food and other people inside the restaurant. We cleaned up our mess we made on the table and then put the rubbish in the bin because we didn’t want to make a mess for the waiter to clean up and also for the next table to eat. When we left the restaurant we waited outside on the benches there for my dad to finish another phone call. I was very full and felt very tired because I ate too much. When my dad finished on the phone we all got up and walked back to the carpark we parked in. When we were walking past again I was looking at the same shoes because I thought they looked cool and they would suit me. We then left because we all knew I couldn’t afford anything. There were heaps of restaurants we were walking past but then we got up to the ramp where the carpark was. In front of the carpark there was a cool sitting area where it was curved and it was like a really steep road to go up. I saw kids playing on it and there were also bird statues there that were like the height of a human. We saw the place where we parked and we went in the car and drove back home. We got home and then we did what we usually do on a normal day.

CONCLUSION:
DUring this whole journey I was feeling pretty tired because I ate too much, hungry because I still hadn’t eaten. And also hangry. I think that my dad and brother felt the same way as me because we were all hungry that’s why we went to KFC.

→In term 1 I was getting ready to go to school for fiafia (April). We had fiafia and our whole school was there. Our journey was a crazy one.

Fiafia is where we go to school in the late afternoon and perform a dance we have learnt for the past 5 weeks. We had it outside under Te Kapua at night and even the parents came. I had to get ready to go back to school because we needed to rush, we were in a hurry. Everybody from our school all needed to go on that night because if there are only a few people you won’t be able to have a big group.

Paragraph 1:
In term 1 we had Fiafia and I was a bit scared. I was at home practicing my dance on the TV for the last time before we left. As I was practicing my dance I realized that I’m gonna have to remember it because I needed to perform it on the stage. I was very scared because there was a few hundred people going to see my dance. When I finished practicing we only had an hour left before we went back to school so my nan did my hair. I was finished doing that so then I waited until it was time to go. On my way back to school I saw families walking around to go back to school as well. I was very nervous because I knew that those people were all going to be watching us and they were going to be judging our performance. It was beginning to get dark a bit outside and the sun was barely setting.

Paragraph 2:
Even though I live close to school it felt like I was going to be late because of the butterflies in my stomach. When we got out of the car in the distance I saw food stands. There was a cold breeze in the air and I knew we were going to have to perform on a really cold night. As we walked I saw kids in some of their uniforms they were wearing and it was very nice clothes because they were going to perform in them. I was very scared but then when I went inside the breeze I saw my friends and we went to go and play before it was time to go to get changed. We were walking around the school trying to find our other friends and they were just arriving. Most of my friends were in the Samoan group so they all left pretty early and I went with my other friend in the Niuean group. We were both waiting outside to let the teacher open the door. The door opened and then we went to get changed into our uniform. Everyone was wearing a white t-shirt and a black & yellow, designed lavalava. Everyone in my group went inside the bathrooms and we all finished. After everybody was in their uniform we had our last practice before we went outside.

Paragraph 3:
After we went on stage I was nervous and I was also very scared. I saw very blurry vision and also it was very dark because of how late it was. I saw kids cheering and people coming up to put money in the jar for our performance.

Conclusion.
Nervous, scared, excited, afraid and also a bit happy.

Start your writing here
→ Last term In week 7 it was cross country on Friday. The reason that the whole school had to do it was because we had to be fit and start running so we can still be young and fit. I ran well and I finished without stopping.

I was running, jogging and sprinting all the way and I tried to not stop. Our whole school had to start our race on the school field and then run out the gate and run how far they have to.

PARAGRAPH 1:
In term 3 we had cross country and I think did well. In the morning we had to pick out the colour of the house we were in : blue(hine moana), red ( te aurere), yellow (hikianalia) and green (Hokulea). I am in yellow and I chose to wear a tutu with fun accessories. At the start of the day it was normal, what we would usually do. In the afternoon we started getting ready for cross country. Everyone was getting sent to the bathroom to wear their house colour while the rest were watching manaiakalani videos. We each got sent by our house colour and the wait was very long because we had to be patient for everyone to finish getting changed. It was then lunch playtime and the track was already finished and there were kids practicing on it for the actual race. Me and my friend Emilee were watching every body race, even the teachers were racing. There were little kids racing, big kids racing, and the year 7’s who were in the elite race. They were all practicing their running on where we all started the race.

PARAGRAPH 2:
When the bell rang it was finally time to go under te kapua and start the races. We were one of the middle people to do the race and I was very nervous because I felt butterflies in my stomach. When they called up the year 5 girls we all stood up and went to the race track. Mr Burt clapped the clapping thingy and we all sprinted! There were a few people in front of me so I tried catching up with them and I passed a lot of people. I was then almost in the front but I didn’t pass them. I was sprinting the whole way towards the gate and I didn’t stop. I passed the gate and I started running a bit slower to save my energy so I could run faster when there were more people in front of me. When they all passed me that’s when I started running faster and they were out of breath so I got in front of them. I was running and running and I only stopped when I couldn’t feel my breath. As I was running there were 7 people in front of me so when we passed the pole I passed one person and I was then standing in 7th place. I started slowing down and just jogged the rest of it. I only stopped when I felt like I needed to. I passed 2 year 7 girls who were in the race before us when we got up to one of the corners. There was a teacher waiting there cheering us all on while running. In front of me was Langeey, and she didn’t stop running. I got up to Miss Davis who was also cheering us on, telling us we can do it and don’t give up. I tried passing Langeey but she didn’t let me. She kept trying to keep up with me. I was too exhausted to keep up with her so I just took a little break. Victory was behind me, not too far off, she was pretty close to me. I tried running a bit faster than her so she couldn’t pass me. When we were getting to the end there were teachers cheering us on. Just before I passed the gate I looked behind me and I saw that Victory was starting to sprint so I ran as fast as I could to the gate and to the finish line. When we passed the gate there were cones to lead you to where you were supposed to go. I started sprinting more slowly because I was losing my energy. When I got to the finish line I saw Langeey lying on the ground from exhaustion.

PARAGRAPH 3:
When I got to the finish line I felt good in myself, I felt that I had succeeded in what I wanted to do. I went to sit back down and all my friends were saying what place they had come and congratulating each other. I was out of breath, I couldn’t feel my breath because of how tired I was. In the end I came 7th place out of the year 5 girls and I was hoping to at least come top 10. I was very happy with where I came from because it is a really good place. After that I watched the rest of the races at the start while cheering. I was cheering for yellow because I wanted them to win the races. We were a very fast house colour and there was a lot placing top 3. After all the races were finished and we were waiting for the last race to finish we all sat down on the side of the finish line and cheered for the people coming up. I was very happy while cheering because someone in yellow came close. We then went back to class and put on our shoes because the bell was about to ring. Then we all went home and told our families where we had placed. I told all my family what place I came and they were all proud, they said that I did good.

Conclusion:
During this race I was feeling tired, nervous, excited, scared, etc. It was very tiring to keep up with all the people because they were very fast. At the start of the race I was feeling nervous because there were a bunch of people watching us and I was feeling like I was getting pressured. While I was running I felt brave and tired. At the end I felt proud and happy.

→Yesterday in the morning we went to the school hall because we had an immersion assembly for the whole school. It was because it was the start of the term and the teachers were showing all of the kids what they were going to learn this year. Our principal Mr Burt was in charge, he told the teachers to make an immersion assembly movie or either present it on the stage at that moment, not all of them were recorded and put into a movie. Our whole school went that morning to watch everyone’s immersion assembly to see what they were all going to be learning about this term.

SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM:
Yesterday the senior management team that put together the performance was Mr Somerville, Mr Burt, and Mr Jacobsen. They sang the song Golden in K-pop Demon Hunters. They were all dressed the same, they wore, white pants, white shirts, white masks, and colourful wigs! They wore the same wigs as what Rumi, Zoey wore to the song. They were singing in fake microphones lip syncing the words and not actually saying it so the kids could say it instead. The year 1’s loved singing to it because they watch it a lot and they like it. Some of my class sang along to it as well. I liked the song they were singing to.

TEAM 1:
At the start of team 1’s movie it showed all of the teachers sitting at a table saying they were bored, Ms Hockley then mentioned them making scones for her and them as well! They agreed and started making the scones! It showed Ms Lal and Ms Courtez making the batch that they needed to make scones, Ms Courtez put half of the milk into a measuring cup and Ms Lal was mixing the cheese up in the bowl. When they finished making it they put it onto the stove and they were letting it cook. While it was in the oven they were cleaning up the mess they made when they were cooking, they were making music with what they were cleaning up with! Miss Shirley was shaking the sprinkles, Ms Lal was sweeping the broom, and Miss Courtez was using a spatula and a pot to play drums! The music was so good it was hurting my ears! It sounded like the beat to a song of rock n roll. When they were finished cleaning up the screen switched to them eating the scones that they made. Miss Hockley was so excited to have them because she was waiting for them to finish making it. When they finished they all sat down on the table and ate them. They were all eating them and they were saying that it was delicious and they all enjoyed eating it! Ms Hockley enjoyed it the most because she didn’t need to make them! I think that this year they are going to be learning that they can make music using anything even with the things you bake with. I enjoyed the team 1 movie because they were baking it.

TEAM 2:
Team 2 did 2 versions of the same video but different music. The first version was scary music, it made the video seem scary because of the sound it was playing in the background. The first clip was one of them running and it played serious music. The next version was just a polite song of them having a race and it was like they were running and having a good time. The next clip showed Ms Teleso finding a creepy chest and then unbuckling the clips and opening it. It seemed very scary because of the music because the music was creepy. The next version just played a soft song of her opening it seeming like it was going to be something calm in the chest. The last one was a video of the teachers climbing up the tree seeming like they were running away from something bad or evil. The other version is them having fun climbing up a tree. I liked how they were doing 2 different songs each clip.

TEAM 3:
For team 3 they were making music by just using cups. In the line it was Mrs Moala, Mrs Scanlan, Mrs Walker, and Mrs Sio. It started with Mrs Moala, then she passed it all the way back to the end of the line and they did it all at the same time. They were also doing the cup song and different kinds. They started with the cup song and they were also turning side ways doing it. They did a lot of different ways of doing it and I think they even made up their own ways. They were teaching us we can do anything by just using trash. They made it look very easy and fun and they showed us what they were learning this term.

TEAM 4:
I am in team 4 and the team 4 teachers did what a teacher thinks in a day. It first showed the teachers walking in the front gate getting ready to work. When they get in the classroom and start working with everyone they get frustrated and start lip syncing to a song saying it was making them mad. They borrowed a couple of our classmates and started saying it to them. The teachers showed us how they feel during the day because they feel so frustrated sometimes. It also played a lot of different songs and it was really fun. It was showing us what music genres there are with each different song. Some songs had a lot of energetic vibes, others had sad vibes, they were all different genres. I think this year we are going to be learning about different types of genres, also things like the tempo, melody, harmony, etc. I enjoy my teams movie because of the different song genres.

TEAM 5:
For team 5 they actually performed what they did in front of the school on the stage. They did a quiz and it was to guess what country the music was made in. There were 4 year 8 students that participated, 2 girls and 2 boys. They each had a turn at guessing and some were wrong but others were right. The team 5 teachers were the other team who were competing in the challenge. If you won then you got to get a bag of lollies and there were only four bags. The winners got to have them and eat them. There were a lot of questions about the countries and there were only 4 answers. Only one of them was right so it was pretty hard because all of the different music matched the country it was from. The countries had very traditional music and not all of them sounded like their country but other ones were easy to guess. Sometimes they weren’t actually guessing and they knew it but they mostly needed to. The teachers were doing pretty good and at the start the kids were struggling but everyone knew that they were gonna catch up. In the end there was about 10-20 questions. The score was 1500-1499 to the students and they won the loli bags! They all got one each and then they got off the stage. All the kids were happy but not the teachers because they thought they won. In the end the teachers lost.I enjoyed watching the quiz because the students won.

This term I am looking forward to learning about different genres of music. There are different types and I am excited to hear about most of them. I am also looking forward to listening to more music about different stuff because it would be nice to learn about more different songs.

Summer Hauora: Think of a time

Today for my writing task we wrote about when our hauora was thriving. A time my hauora was thriving was when I was focused on everything and my life was easy. Sometimes I enjoy things other times I don’t. That is okay because we don’t have to like everything everybody has got different opinions and it may not be the same.I have experienced all of the four walls and what they feel like. Thank you for checking out when my hauora was thriving and please leave a positive blog comment!

Summer Language Features: Community

For this week we were learning more about what language features are and we had to write 5 things that’s related to our community but it had to be that language feature. Super words are also language features and they are adverbs, verbs, adjectives, and nouns. They are all found in a story but language features are rare to find. Check out my blog post to see my sentences and words I have wrote about language features related to my community and make sure to leave a positive blog comment.
